Videalert
Provider of intelligent traffic Videalert needed to ensure that communications would be maintained as 3G was phased out in the move to 4G networks.
The Challenge
Videalert is one of the UK’s leading providers of intelligent traffic enforcement and management solutions that improve road safety and traffic flows, as well as help reduce crime.
Videalert focuses on the provision of digital traffic solutions that deliver the highest productivity at the lowest operational cost. The company has developed a unique Digital Video Platform (DVP) that supports multiple civil traffic enforcement, traffic management, community safety and crime prevention applications simultaneously, from a single CCTV infrastructure, without requiring specific equipment for every solution point. In addition, the company is at the forefront of a new generation of systems that will enable local authorities to cost effectively enforce Clean Air Zones.
Fast and secure communications are at the heart of everything that Videalert does, as CCTV cameras need to efficiently communicate with the DVP to generate evidence packs for review by Council officers for the issuance of Penalty Charge Notices.
Videalert’s main challenges in identifying a SIM supplier were:
The Solution
All SIMs supplied by Mobius could be upgraded from 3G to 4G through ‘over the air’ (OTA) provisioning and still keep the same IP Address and private network relationship.
Building a custom Access Point Name (APN) to meet Videalert’s very stringent security requirements was relatively straightforward, as Mobius has more APNs and Virtual Private Networks (VPN) than its competitors.
The Benefits
Videalert transitioned its devices in the field ahead of the 3G sunset without any disruption to service using the same SIM, IP address and settings.
The high level of security provided by Mobius meant that the DVPs can work in a ‘trusted’ environment, making communications simpler and more reliable.
